Boiler glossary Z

ZEOLITE PROCESS -- Standard water-softening process, formerly based on using naturally-occurring zeolites, but nowadays on synthetic seolites (insoluble synthetic resins).
ZEROL GEAR -- A type of bevel gear, having curved teeth and zero helical angle.
ZINC -- Zn. A metallic element with atomic number 30.
ZINC PROTECTOR -- Introduced originally for the cathodic protection of copper sheathing on wooden ships. Now used in steel ships near the bronze propellers. Also used in heat-exchanges to protect the tubes.
ZIRCONIUM -- Zr. A metallic element with atomic number 40.
ZIRCONIUM OXIDE -- ZrO2 is used in oxygen sensors.
