I like your website very much and might end up picking your brain, because I am building a steampowered sternwheeler and have some problems with the choice of the boiler, the first one being the size of it. The engine is 3"x12", 2 cyl, double acting, 60 RPM, 120psi and I wonder if a 2 square meter w/t boiler (biggest boiler not subject to yearly inspections in Canada) is big enough. Can you enlighten me?

I feel fortunate to have found your site, as it comprises so much design work in one site. I have sent a message separately, and went to your site while searching for Lamont boiler details. My intention is to evaluate the feasibility, that started with Doble steam car design, of a modern steam car that would use hydrogen as a fuel.
There are three reasons:
1. Hydrogen can now be produced from water at lower temperatures with catalysts (800 degrees).
2. My father was responsible for Hydrogen experiments and H2 dewar storage design at Berkeley and Livermore radiation laboratories, and I have most of his working papers. The storage of hydrogen in small quanties is feasible and resonably safe.
3. Condensation processing in the Doble permitted it to go 1500 miles before recharging with H20....and I predict that H2 burning that produces water could be recovered and recylyed, so that the car would only require fuel, not water.

It is knowledge like yours that could prove feasibility, or pure dreaming.

For years I have been living with high pressure boliers of 640 PSI (44 Bar) super heated steam. Have been in Merchant Ships and was Chief Engineer in Steam Turbine Ships and various shore jobs controlling the ships. presently Gen Manager of a Shipping Management company. I was browsing for some details on Boiler Tube materials and was thrilled about this web-site and I enjoyed all the details given here and am extremely happy about all chapters and specially about question/answers. Much useful information and I thank all those who dedicated their time in the ineterest of Boiler technology.
